Babul Supriyo started as a banker but later pursued music, gaining fame as a playback singer.

In 2014, he entered politics with the BJP, became a minister, and later joined TMC in 2021. He won the Ballygunge Assembly seat in 2022 and now holds key positions in the West Bengal government.

Singing Career

After a short time at Standard Chartered Bank, Babul Supriyo chose to follow his love for music.

In 1992, he moved to Mumbai to build a career in Hindi films. His big break came when music composer Kalyanji took him on international tours, where he performed live.

In 1993, he traveled to Canada and the USA with Amitabh Bachchan. Later, in 1997 and 1999, he performed in the US with Asha Bhonsle.

Besides playback singing, he performed at many stage shows. In 2011, he sang at the Powai Sarvajanin Durgotsav. Over time, he became well-known in the industry and sang several hit songs.

Political Career

Babul Supriyo entered politics in March 2014 by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). That same year, he ran for the Indian general elections from Asansol, West Bengal, and won. His victory earned him a position in Narendra Modi’s government as the Minister of State for Urban Development and Housing, making him one of the youngest ministers at the time.

In 2016, he was given a new role as the Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.

In 2019, he won the Asansol seat again, defeating Moon Moon Sen by a big margin. After his win, he became the Minister of State for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change.

However, his political journey had ups and downs. In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, he ran from Tollygunj but lost by over 50,000 votes. Disappointed, he first announced he was leaving politics but later changed his mind.

In September 2021, he shocked many by leaving the BJP and joining the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC).

On April 16, 2022, he won the Ballygunge Assembly seat, marking a fresh start in his political career.

On September 11, 2023, he took charge of two important departments in the West Bengal government—Information Technology & Electronics and Non-Conventional & Renewable Energy Sources, further expanding his role in public service.
