She began performing at the age of eight, having received early training in classical music. She appeared in movies like “Hum Naujawan” (1985), “Insaaf Ki Awaaz” (1986), and “Anubhav” (1986). She was married to Sanjay Dutt, and unfortunately, she passed away on November 10, 1996, in New York City, USA. Richa continued her study of Indian classical and light music under the guidance of Pandit Aaskaran Sharma.
Career
Under Pandit Aaskaran Sharma’s guidance, Richa broadened her musical horizons by exploring ghazals, movie songs, and Punjabi and Rajasthani folk tunes. This diversity helped her connect with a wider audience through her versatile voice.
Despite facing challenges, Richa moved to Bombay in 1994 to pursue a music career. To support herself, she sang bhajans and cover versions while striving to establish herself in Bollywood. Her Bollywood debut was in Sawan Kumar’s Salma Pe Dil Aa Gaya in 1996, and she gained recognition with the hit song in Taal composed by AR Rahman.
Richa has lent her voice to numerous Bollywood films, including Zubeidaa, Saathiya (A.R. Rahman), Hera Pheri (Anu Malik), Khakee (Ram Sampath), Baghban (Title Song for Aadesh Shrivastava), and many more.
