Early Life
In the Indian state of Maharashtra, Devaki Pandit was born on 6 March 1965. She is the third generation of musicians in her family. Her mother gave her her first instruction in music, and Vasantrao Kulkarni later tutored her for almost ten years.
Devaki Pandit also received training from Kishori Amonkar for four years and Pt. Jitendra Abhisheki for twelve years. Since 2003, she has been trained under the skilled guidance of vocalist Pt. Babanrao Haldankar.

Padma Vibhushan Ganasaraswati Kishori Amonkar and Padmashree Pt. Jitendra Abhisheki is the teacher of Devaki Pandit. Thus, her legendary gurus and their distinct musical tastes have impacted her Gayaki. It was her mother, Smt. Usha Pandit, who introduced her to music. At age nine, Pt. Vasantrao Kulkarni gave her official training. Later on, she also learned from Dr. Arun Dravid, a student of Gaansaraswati Kishoritai Amonkar, and Pt. Babanrao Haldankar of the Agra gharana.
She says, “My first teacher, my mother Usha Pandit, who was also a student of Pt. Jitendra Abhisheki taught me the fundamentals of music but constantly put me to the test; a student of Pt. With her mother and her gurus teaching her the nuances, Devaki blossomed into a talented vocalist. Her desire to become versatile and her acute senses inspired her to sing bhajans, ghazals, cabanas, and songs for films apart from Indian classical music.
