Early Life
Falguni Pathak was born on March 12, 1969, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. She is the youngest of five daughters. She started learning music at a young age and was trained in classical and folk singing. She also took part in various interschool and intercollege music competitions and won several prizes.
At the tender age of 9, Falguni Pathak made her first public performance on the INS Udaigiri Ship on the eve of India’s Independence Day. She sang “Laila O Laila” from the film Qurbani.
Born into a Gujarati family, Falguni Pathak grew up listening to Garba and Gujarati music, which instilled in her a deep love for the genre. Her mother taught her Garba folk songs when she was a child, and she began singing as a chorus singer at Navaratri celebrations.
Her love for music and her talent as a singer were evident from a young age. Her early performances and her exposure to Garba and Gujarati music laid the foundation for her successful career as a singer.
Career
Falguni Pathak finished her Bachelor of Commerce degree from Smt. M.M.K. College of Commerce & Economics in Mumbai. She began her career in Bollywood with the song “Kya Mil Gayi Dusri” for the movie Aandhiyan in 1990. Her first album was released in 1998. Initially, a production company called PolyGram wanted her to release a ‘Dandiya‘ album, but later they decided to make a pop album to reach a wider Indian audience.
She received her training in folk music from Diwaliben Bhil and also studied under Bhavdeep Jaipurwale for 5 years.
Most of her songs revolve around the theme of love, and her spiritual guru Shri Aniruddha Bapu is her source of inspiration.
Falguni recorded her first song at the age of 10 for a Gujarati movie, alongside Alka Yagnik. However, her debut in the Hindi music industry came with the song “Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi” in 1998. Some of her other well-known singles include “Maine Payal Hai Chhankai,” “Meri Chunar Udd Udd Jaye,” and “Saawan Mein,” among others.
She also appeared in Hindi TV serials like “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah” and “Baa Bahoo Aur Baby.” In addition, she participated in reality shows such as “Kaun Banega Crorepati,” “Star Dandiya Dhoom,” and “Comedy Nights Bachao.”
Falguni Pathak is particularly popular among the Gujarati community for her Navratri special songs. One of her famous Gujarati songs, in high demand during the Navratri season, is “Indhana Vinvaa Gayi Thi More Saiyan.”
In 2002, she ventured into costume designing and contributed to films like “Dil Vil Pyar Vyar” and “Dil Hai Tumhaara.”
