Kalpana Patowary was born on October 27, 1978, in Barpeta, Assam, India. She was born into a family of musicians, and her father, Bipin Nath Patowary, was a well-known folk singer. Patowary began singing at a young age, and she was trained in Kamrupiya and Goalporiya folk music by her father. She also received further training in Hindustani classical music at Bhatkhande Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Lucknow.
Career
Kalpana Patowary started her career at the age of 4 and received further training from Dipen Roy and Shikha Dutta for Sangeet Bisharad in Hindustani Classical Music at Bhatkhande Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Lucknow. She has sung in more than 32 languages, including Bhojpuri, Assamese, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, and English, throughout her solo musical journey.
Patowary’s big break came in 2008 when she participated in the reality show Junoon – Kuchh Kar Dikhaane Ka (2008), which was aired on NDTV Imagine. She gained recognition for her singing abilities and her unique style.
Kalpana Patowary has since gone on to sing in several Bollywood films, including Fool & Final (2007), Billu (2009), Khatta Meetha (2010), and Begum Jaan (2017). She has also sung in several Bhojpuri films and has released several albums.
