Early Life
Manmohan Waris was born on August 3, 1967, in the village of Halluwal in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab. He grew up in a farming family and developed a passion for music at a young age. He learned music from the renowned Ustad Shree Jaswant Singh Bhnawra, who recognized his talent and nurtured it.
Career
Manmohan Waris’s musical journey began in the early 1990s. He initially performed at local gatherings and community events, showcasing his talent and gradually building a loyal following. His big break came in 1992 with the release of his debut album, “Heer Waris,” which became a critical and commercial success. This success propelled him to stardom and established him as a prominent figure in the Punjabi music industry.
Over the years, Manmohan Waris has released numerous albums and singles, each garnering immense popularity and solidifying his position as a leading singer. He has collaborated with several renowned musicians and producers, including his brother, Sangtar, and has performed extensively across the globe.
He got his music degree from Punjab University, but the most important teacher for him was Shree Jaswant Singh Bhanwra. Unlike many other Punjabi singers who also learned from Shree Jaswant Singh Bhanwra, he didn’t teach him the popular style of singing.
Instead, he taught him the authentic music that he knew well. He saw a great singer in Manmohan and wanted him to succeed. In 1990, Manmohan Waris’s family moved to Canada where he released his first album, ‘Gairan Naal Peenghan Jhootdeye.’ The album did well, and when Waris returned to Punjab, people couldn’t get enough of his music.
So, he decided to move back to India. Since then, his career has been consistently successful. Waris believes that maintaining your reputation is not easy; you have to work hard to get to the top and work even harder to stay there.
Manmohan’s latest religious album, titled “Ghar Hun Kitni Ku Doore…,” has eight deeply thoughtful songs. The title track gives us insight into the thoughts of the young Sahibzadas after they were separated from their family, evoking emotions. Another song from the album, ‘Dukh Vichhade Nankane da,’ quietly challenges the active Sikh community and reminds us of our historical treasures amid political games.
