In 2006, Mithoon’s friend suggested him to Onir, the director of Bas Ek Pal, who needed an electro-based title track. This led to his first original song as a composer, “Bas Ek Pal” with singer KK, followed by “Tere Bin” sung by Atif Aslam in 2006. Both songs were in the film Bas Ek Pal.
He composed the music for Anwar, which came out in 2007. His songs “Tose Naina Lage” and “Maula Mere” from that movie are still very popular.
Mithoon also worked on songs for various non-movie albums, like “Kuch Is Tarah” from Atif Aslam’s album Doorie, and “Ek Shaqs” from Abhijeet Sawant’s album Junoon. He released his album, Tu Hi Mere Rab Ki Tarah Hai in 2009 with T-Series. For this album, Mithoon went to the United Kingdom to work with musicians from the Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 2011, he composed two songs “Aye Khuda” and “Phir Mohabbat” for the film Murder 2, which also introduced Arijit Singh.
