He belonged to the “Aditya Gharana of Jamnagar.” He has two brothers: music composer Shravan Rathod, who was part of the Nadeem-Shravan duo, and singer Vinod Rathod. Roop Kumar is married to Sunali Rathod, who was previously married to Bhajan singer Anup Jalota. They have a daughter named Reewa.
