Shabbir Kumar started his music career in Baroda and later became a popular playback singer in Bollywood. He got his big break in the 1980s and worked with top music directors, singing for many famous actors. Over the years, he has sung thousands of songs and performed worldwide.

Early Start in Music

His first big opportunity came with the Melody Makers orchestra, which performed in Pune and Mumbai. He also played a key role in organizing “Ek Shaam Rafi Ke Naam,” a tribute show for Mohammed Rafi.

In 1980, while attending Mohammed Rafi’s funeral, Shabbir’s wristwatch fell into Rafi’s grave. He saw this as a sign that he was meant to continue Rafi’s legacy as a singer.

Music director Usha Khanna gave Shabbir his first film song in Tajurba (1981). His breakthrough came when director Manmohan Desai recommended him to the famous music duo LaxmikantPyarelal.
