His mother, Neelima Azeem, continued her dance career in Delhi, while his father, Pankaj Kapur, moved to Mumbai. In Mumbai, Neelima Azeem married actor Rajesh Khattar, and Shahid stayed with them until their divorce in 2001. Shahid and his stepbrother, Ishaan Khattar, maintain a good relationship. Pankaj Kapur’s marriage to Supriya Pathak resulted in two more half-siblings, Sanah Kapoor and Ruhaan Kapoor.
