Pathak was born on July 27, 1968, in Bihar’s Bhojpur district in India. His father worked at the Dhanbad police department, so he grew up there. From 1978 to 1982, he studied at Ranchi’s Vikas Vidyalaya. After finishing his education at Allahabad University, he moved to the United States. During his BFA degree at Stony Brook University, Farley Richmond became his main mentor, encouraging him to come back to India and work in Hindi theatre and films in 1995.
Career
Vinay Pathak, during his time at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, took on various acting roles, notably in comedies like Bheja Fry and Khosla Ka Ghosla. He also played Vinny in the TV series Hip Hip Hurray in 1999 and produced the touching film Dasvidaniya about bidding farewell before one’s passing. Alongside Ranvir Shorey, he co-hosted shows like OYE, Cricket Crazy, House Arrest, Duniya Goal Hain, and Ranvir Vinay Aur Kaun.
He teamed up with pals Gaurav Gera, Suresh Menon, and Ranvir for The Great Indian Comedy Show. In 2005, he portrayed Inspector Gurpal Badash in Murder Unveiled, a TV film centered on Canada’s Sikh community.
Pathak featured in movies like Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Aaja Nachle, Khoya Khoya Chand, Johnny Gaddaar, and Raat Gayi Baat Gayi released in December 2009. He also starred in Antardwand and was seen at ONCE MORE STUDIOS with Deepak Bhanushali.
