Early Life

Terence Lewis was born on 10 April 1975 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Despite being a good student, his parents couldn’t afford his education.

Terence Lewis had a tough time continuing his dance training after finishing school because he didn’t have enough money. But his motto ‘ATM’ – Absorb, Try, and Master – encouraged him to persevere. He studied microbiology at the renowned St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. Money issues made him switch to hotel management and psychology.

Being well-educated helped him get a high-paying job. With this newfound stability, he began pursuing his dream in dance from the beginning.

Career

Although he initially aspired to be an actor, he later chose dancing as his career and is now a famous choreographer. He made history as the first Indian to represent the country in Vienna, Austria, and received the danceWEB Europe Scholarship.

Terence Lewis brought new dance styles to Bollywood in this movie, impressing the audience with his talent. He won the 2002 American Choreography Award for his choreography, sharing it with Saroj Khan, Ganesh Hegde, Vaibhavi Merchant, and Raju Khan.

Jhankaar Beats (2003)

Dance India Dance is a dance competition TV show that started on January 30, 2009. It’s made by Essel Vision Productions and is shown on Zee TV.

In the show, dancers from different styles compete in auditions in big Indian cities. They show their unique styles and talents. If they get chosen, they go through mega auditions to see how versatile they are. After mega auditions, the top 18 dancers become finalists. 

In the main competition, they perform solo, in pairs, and groups in different dance styles. The audience votes, along with the judges’ opinions, decide who goes to the next round each week.

Terence Lewis was a judge in the first three seasons of Dance India Dance, along with Remo D’Souza and Geeta Kapoor. Alisha Singh, who competed against him, came second in the first season. Shakti Mohan, another contestant of his, won in the second season.
